#100 Happy Africa Day

How fitting for the 100th post on Afrolicious be on and about Africa Day!

I must confess, I did not know there was such a thing as Africa Day until late last night when scanning the Afrolicious Network.  According to Wikipedia  Africa Day “is the annual commemoration on May 25 of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity.”

This year, according to representatives of the Africa Union, Africa Day is a day to focus on peace and security.  I wish there were more fanfare and global recognition around the web about this day and I hope to see more celebration in the years to come.

PS: Here’s a gift from us to you in celebration of Africa Day 2010!

Fela Fridays: Biopic Edition

It was only a matter of time and now it’s confirmed: Chiwetel Ejiofor has been chosen to play Fela Kuti in a biopic based on the book Fela: The Life and Times of an African Musical Icon (not the musical). The great news is that Ejiofor is Nigerian, so we can expect a better Nigerian accent from him.

Yeah, I said it.

Happy Friday!

The Afrolicious Network

It’s here! The Afrolicious Network is a collection of digital inspiration taken from blogs, photo, music, art, businesses and everything in between.  I don’t know what else to say besides it’s amazing the diversity of sites we’ve collected.  Check it out! Let me know if you like it if you hate it.

Special hugs and kisses and thanks go to Damon, Huong, Renina, Sarah of SarenzoBeads, Laide, Alaia, Tafari, @freeeafrica, and so many others who checked out the site and encouraged me to complete it.  You all rock! Thank you!
