Asa’s Beautiful Imperfection

The blogs are buzzing with Asa’s new album titled Beautiful Imperfection coming this week. It’s all rather exciting; Asa’s one of few African women who’ve made it to a mainstream audience. And by mainstream I mean the United States.  I do love the treatment Jean Baptiste Mondino gave her in these photos.

Her single Be My Man features her familiar voice but is definitely a lot more lively than her first offering.  The track’s below and make sure to cop it where you can when it’s released!

Choose Joy #1: Take Care of Yourself

Remember Choose Joy? That was the initial tagline for Afrolicious.  My early Sunday school teachers defined joy as Jesus (first) Others (next) Yourself (last). Joy.

Not really.  After years of living this way – putting yourself last in particular – you’ll find that it becomes unsustainable.  It’s backwards and even Jesus teaches we should examine our hearts first before going off into someone else’s.

I have no pithy words for you (for me). No lofty quotes from philosophers old and new.  Just do it.  Take care of yourself this weekend. I mean it.
