The beginning of a new year is always a fun way to trick yourself into thinking about starting something over, learning a new skill, eating healthy, losing weight and so on. As it turns out, you can start these things at any point in time. The calendar is just a nice way to keep everything in order.
But why not start now? It’ll take a while before you develop those new habits needed to achieve your yearly goals, so the sooner you start the better you’ll be three weeks into the following year.
This week, I’ll be featuring three 365 projects I’ve come across over the internet. Not all of them began at the beginning of a calendar year, but each of them are complete or nearly complete. Stay tuned!
What are some changes you’d like to make in your life next year? New habits you’d like to form? How can you start them now so you’ll be in motion by the time the new year swings through?
We’re cooking up something in the Afrolicious kitchen for y’all. It hits the web December 1st, 2010 but I wanted to give y’all a little sneak peek.
Want some more? Watch this space on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 for the big announcement. And, if you’re in Los Angeles on on Saturday, December 4, 2010 you’re totally invited to touch and see the Afrolicious goodness. Details to come!
Bye for now!
Continuing with the theme of creators this week, I have a varied collection of pieces to share. You may know her a bit from yesterday’s feature on Faith; as it turns out, they’re close friends
Check out these pieces made by Estasha (@LadyDutchess):
Styled by Estasha. Can you say another beautiful black woman? Again, on my hunt for seriously bold accessories, I found Estasha through Faith who was wearing one of her fabric pieces pictured below. Gorgeous, right?
How in the world did she ever come up with this? Actually, funny story…
That necklace was named after and inspired by my soul sista Faith. We went shopping one day & she fell in love with this chain necklace that was insanely overpriced. I had to beg her not to buy it because I felt like it was something I could make in 5 minutes for $5. But days after I could tell that the necklace was still haunting her so I told her I would make her one. Long story short, I got inspired by her personality & completely flipped the design to reflect how I saw her; colorful, regal, Afrocentric, and vibrant. It was nothing like the necklace she wanted so thank God she loved it!
It seems Estasha has a gift for capturing people’s essence. Makes for a good stylist, I think.

This look familiar to any OG gamers out there?
Estasha’s searches out beauty and puts everyday and unusual materials in her creations.
Simply put I just love to make beautiful things. Whether it be through the pieces of jewelry I create, or styling photo shoots, or painting. I just love to reflect the beauty I see everyday around me. I feel the most like myself when Im creating and to me there’s no greater high.
She’s working on her etsy store where you’ll be able to find these and more. Until it’s ready, you can view her styles on Model Mayhem and link up with her on Facebook.
Thanks, Estasha!
This is one black girl from the future you need to know. Renina deals in the places where feminism, hip hop, sexuality and capitalism meet (and don’t meet). She has two important posts up this week that you should read and comment. If you feel a little lost, you better ask a question or two.
